Milestones and the Danish stone
At Rydfors and Källeberg (between Gölingstorp and Nittorp city) you pass milestones. There are a number of such stones along the roads in the village and all bear the year 1754. The history of the stones begins in 1649. A royal decision was issued that milestones would be set up at the roadside. The same year was added to the Regulation on the establishment of residents. According to this decision, the guesthouses would be 1.5 to 2.5 mils apart. Notice that the "old Swedish mile" was 10,688 meters. With milestones, the distance to the nearest guesthouse should be stated. The milestones and innkeepers are therefore intimately linked to each other.
In 1754, the governor of Älvsborg County ordered the old woods to be replaced by new ones. The stone was to be collected from Kinnekulle. The stones were crowned with the royal crown, including the intertwined royal celebrities AF (Adolf Fredrik). Below was the distance to the nearest guesthouse. The stone's text was completed with the governor's initials A: M: (Adolf Mörner) and the year 1754. Ever since, our roads are adorned by the green stones along the roadside.
The current roadmap of stone in Gölingstorp had a predecessor.
For a long time, Nittorps had a wooden pointer standing in the same place. At the beginning of the 20th century, this was so bad that one decided to replace it with one of the stones.
One obeyed the wording of the old inscription.
On one side stands:
"To Tåstarp on the road to Götheborg and Warberg 1803 F.L"
On the other side are:
"To Marbeck on the Road to UlriceHamn 1803 F.L."
Initials F.L. Stands for the governor Johan Fredrik Lilliehorn,
Who was the governor of the county of Älvsborg 1785 - 1809.
The "Danish Stone" in Nittorp is close to the road between society and the church. Many have their theories about the strange stone with a circular hole at eye level. The most imaginative version is from the troubled war years with Danish. A Danish here approached Nittorp. A Swedish commander sent his most trusted man to speak in Danish. The soldier found a safe hideaway behind the stone with his hole. Here he could stand safe for the enemy's bullets and at the same time tense them. When he saw them breaking into the parish, he jumped away to warn his commander.
The story sounds like a shadow, but still worthy of preserving the aftermath. Who knows, maybe there's an ounce of truth in it.
The more scary explanation is that there has been a grind over the road and that the stone has been one of the pillar posts. The hole is there as the wooden door to the gate.
But sure is the first version more enjoyable?
